How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Mechanic with Tires

Tire rotations are essential to safe driving in Winter Haven, but how often should you rotate your tires? In general, it should happen once every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, but the frequency will vary depending on your Kia model. Always check your owner’s manual for the most accurate frequency or contact our service center at Regal Kia if you’re unsure! Discover more about how often to rotate your tires below according to your car’s drivetrain type.

Rotating Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles

In cars with front-wheel (FWD) or rear-wheel drive (RWD), the engine is sending the power to the front tires or the rear tires respectively. Since one specific set of tires receives most of the power, they will wear faster than the other set, so you will need to rotate them to avoid uneven wear. Here are some other times to keep in mind:

  • When to rotate tires for FWD or RWD cars? They’re usually rotated once every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, but of course, your owner’s manual will always have the exact figures.
  • If you’re performing an FWD tire rotation yourself at home, be sure to flip sides when moving the rear tires. For example, the rear right tire will go on the front left. However, when moving the front tires to the back, keep them on the same side.
  • For the service on an RWD car though, you’ll need to invert the process above. Flip sides when moving the front tires to the back, but keep the rear tires on the same side when moving them forward.
  • Also, your driving habits and style in Plant City will affect how often you need to rotate your tires.

Rotating Tires on AWD Vehicles

What if you have an all-wheel drive (AWD) model? Then how often to rotate your tires will be different from an RWD or FWD vehicle. The engine is sending power to every wheel when AWD is active, so when to rotate tires will be more frequent and how to rotate them will be more complex. If you use AWD often in your Brandon drives, it will be even more frequent. Generally, though, you can expect a rotation every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Here is how to rotate your tires on an AWD vehicle:

  1. The left rear goes to the right front spot.
  2. The right rear goes to the left front spot.
  3. The right front goes to the left rear spot.
  4. The left front goes to the right rear spot.

If you want to understand the process better, you can draw a simple diagram of your drivetrain and use color-coded arrows to help you move your tires properly. Our service technicians can also help you get it done if you want a professional’s help! Just schedule an appointment and feel free to browse our service specials
